Florida Boater Education vs On-Water Skill Training

Florida boating safety education card required to legally operate a motorized vessel

Florida law requires a boater education course if you were born after January 1, 1988 and operate a vessel over 10 horsepower.

Online courses satisfy the legal requirement — but they do not teach boat handling.

NSBC On-Water Training teaches the practical skills most boaters never receive:
docking control, maneuvering, and safe operation in real conditions.

We recommend completing the online course  to become truly confident.

This FREE online boat safety class  meets insurance requirements.

Even though I grew up in Key West and have spent a lifetime around boats (Owned my first boat with engine in 6th grade), I still learned so much from Mark that I didn’t know before. He answered every question thoroughly and shared practical tips we could put into practice right away.

Captain Mark provided an outstanding learning experience. We began with a thorough review of essential boating principles on the dock, followed by practical, hands-on training on the water. Within a short time, I was docking confidently and managing land points even in windy conditions. The instruction was clear, patient, and highly effective—well worth the investment of time. Thank you, Captain Mark!”

Great day on the water with captain Mark. Great teacher, very enjoyable.

I had an extremely positive experience with Boatmasters. I’ve been boating since I was a child, Marks knowledge of navigation and boat handling brought a clearer prospective. He’s fun to learn from and his presentation is enjoyable. I highly recommend no matter your skill level, you can always learn something new or a new way to see it.
