Whether you struggle with wind at the dock, tight marina slips, current on the Intracoastal, or simply want to sharpen your skills, our private lessons deliver noticeable improvement — often in just one focused session.

Instruction is tailored to your experience level, your vessel, and the Florida waters you operate in — including Tampa Bay, Central Florida, Lake County, the St. Johns River, Indian River Lagoon, and coastal Atlantic waterways.

Why Even Experienced Boaters Take Private Lessons

• Wind and cross-current at Florida marinas
• Tight fuel docks and crowded weekends
• Inconsistent throttle control
• Lack of formal training
• Insurance training requirements and discounts

Most boat owners were never properly taught — they were handed the keys.

Private instruction corrects technique quickly and builds confidence that lasts.

WHY MOST BOAT OWNERS FEEL NERVOUS

Because no one ever taught them:
• How slow a boat really moves
• How wind actually affects approach
• How to stop exactly where they want
• What to do when something feels off

Boating isn’t stressful.
Uncertainty is.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING YOUR 3 HOURS

Understand your throttle, steering response, and gear engagement — without pressure.

2. Idle-Speed Mastery
You’ll feel how your boat truly moves at slow speed.

3. Positioning & Stop Control
Learn how to hold position and correct calmly.

4. Docking Approach Under Guidance
We approach slowly, with real-time instruction the entire way.

By the end, you know what your boat will do before it does it.

THIS SESSION IS IDEAL IF

• You avoid tight fuel docks
• Wind/current changes your plan
• Docking feels rushed
• A Spouse or crew handles the landing
• You've taken classes but it didn’t “click”

WHAT CHANGES AFTER

You won’t hope it works.
You’ll recognize the situation and know what adjustment to make.

That’s when docking starts to feel calm.

More Than Just Boat Handling

Boating isn’t just about throttle control or docking technique.
It’s about building confidence, trust, and calm at the helm.

Whether you’re learning alongside a spouse, a friend, or family, the goal is simple: move together with clarity, communicate better, and feel fully in control of your boat.

When that happens, everything shifts.
The boat responds. The tension disappears. The experience becomes what it was meant to be.

Intro Session

Intro Session

2-Hour On-Water Session — $499

Ideal starting point for new boat owners or those building foundational control.

Travel fee may apply for extended-distance locations

Learn the fundamentals once. Use them for life.

This is where boating starts to make sense.

You’ll learn how the boat moves, how to control it at low speed, and how to bring it back to the dock without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

Nothing is fast.
Nothing is forced.

We go step-by-step so the boat makes sense before you ever have to react quickly.

You’re not expected to know anything when you arrive — that’s the point of this session.

WHAT YOUR LESSON IS ACTUALLY LIKE

We begin at the dock with the engine off so you can understand the controls calmly.

Then we move at idle speed only.
You’ll feel how steering, shifting, and throttle actually affect the boat.

Next you practice turning, stopping, and holding position in open water.

Only after that do we approach the dock — slowly — with guidance the entire time.

By the end you’ll know:

• how slow a boat really moves
• how to stop exactly where you want
• how to approach a dock safely
• what to do if something feels wrong

You leave knowing what the boat will do before it surprises you.

THIS SESSION IS IDEAL IF

• you’ve never driven a boat
• you feel nervous at the helm
• you want a patient introduction
• you’re learning with family
• you want to start the right way

WHAT CHANGES AFTER

The boat stops feeling unpredictable.
You understand what it’s going to do before it does it.

Holly Hill, FL

Even though I grew up in Key West and have spent a lifetime around boats (Owned my first boat with engine in 6th grade), I still learned so much from Mark that I didn’t know before. He answered every question thoroughly and shared practical tips we could put into practice right away.

Jermaine R.

Captain Mark provided an outstanding learning experience. We began with a thorough review of essential boating principles on the dock, followed by practical, hands-on training on the water. Within a short time, I was docking confidently and managing land points even in windy conditions. The instruction was clear, patient, and highly effective—well worth the investment of time. Thank you, Captain Mark!”

Great day on the water with captain Mark. Great teacher, very enjoyable.

I had an extremely positive experience with Boatmasters. I’ve been boating since I was a child, Marks knowledge of navigation and boat handling brought a clearer prospective. He’s fun to learn from and his presentation is enjoyable. I highly recommend no matter your skill level, you can always learn something new or a new way to see it.
